New Zealand thumped Scotland in the Slogfest!

Match Report

Due to the intervention of the Rain in the game and the delayed start, the 2nd T20 World Cup match was no longer T20 but S7. Well another surprise in this T20 world cup after the first turnaround.

Well anything can happen in the game of 20-20, then what would you say about that of a 7-7 ? It was damn exciting and no doubt in such a shorter version, anything could happen. But due the brilliant performance of Ian Butler with the ball and Jesse Ryder and Ross taylor’s savage hitting with the bat, New Zealand managed to avoid any turnaround and won quite comfortably with 7 wickets. New Zealanders were also helped by the poor fielding of Scotland and two no balls which provided two free hits and released the pressure from the New Zealand batsmen. Ian buttler was declared man of the match for his 3 wickets. He bowled a brilliant last over taking two wickets in that over and just went for 8 runs. His overall figures were 2 overs, 19 runs and 3 wickets.

Earlier Scotland went on to a flier and managed to put on a total of 89 on the board courtsey good batting of Watson,Poonia and coetzer. Scotland lost 3 wickets in the last three deliveries of their innings.The crowd who endured a frustrating wait for a long before the game could begin were treated with 2 hrs of the Slogathon with savage-hitting from both the sides.

It could not be more exciting this WORLD T20 CUP thus far!

Gayle and Fletcher slammed Australia

It was The Gayle show on the Saturday eve here at the Oval. The Swashbuckler opener ruined the Australian bowling attack and West Indies went on to clinch a comprehensive 7 wickets victory. Chasing a total of 170, both the West Indies openers Gayle and Fletcher thumped the Australian fast bowlers all over the park and had a partnership of 133 for the 1st wicket. West indies chased down the total in the 16th over. The captain Chris Gayle scored fiery 88 off 50 balls and was awarded the man of the match award for his dazzling knock.

Earlier Taylor gave two big blows to the Australians as he got rid off Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting in the very first over of the match. Both the batsmen were out for a not with ponting got out on the very first ball of his innings. But then they recovered well thanks to the Warner’s 63 off 53 balls and little contributions from David Hussey, MEK Hussey and Brad Haddin. Australian set a target of 170 for West Indies.

At last there was something to cheer for the West Indies fans after a long time and it was really a big occasion for them to party hard as it is the biggest victory so far in this T20 World Cup.

Ojha and Yuvraj helped India’s march to the victory!

So the Indians have started their title defense in great style here, beating the giant killers comprehensively. After getting 180, they always had an upper hand but Bangladesh is a side that is highly unpredictable. The way Tamim and Junaid started, it looked we might have a contest but the early blow from Yusuf and subsequent blows from Pragyan Ojha, put Bangladesh on the backfoot. They got to a point of no return and India got home with ease.India won by 25 runs. Another good news for India is that Zaheer Khan, the man under suspicion played the game but Sehwag still could not make it.

It took Yuvraj Singh 18 balls to undo 10 overs’ hard work by Bangladesh that had pulled India back after another solid start from Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma. It took Pragyan Ojha five balls to undo their eight overs of keeping pace with a stiff total and eventually India became the first side in this tournament to successfully defend. Ojha was declared man of the match for his 4 wickets.

England vs. Netherlands Preview

Hosts England open the ICC World Twenty20 against outsiders Netherlands at Lord’s in a match they dare not lose and the Dutch hope they might win.

In pace bowler Dirk Nannes, who plays at Lord’s for Middlesex, the Dutch have a left-arm quick who can swing the ball late.

Australia-born Nannes didn’t hit top form during the Netherlands’s recent warm-up games against Ireland and Scotland but if the seamer, who also plays for Indian Premier League side the Delhi Daredevils, is at his best then England need to watch out.

All-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate is another key figure for the Dutch and this match could see him in action against at least two of his Essex team-mates in opening batsman Ravi Bopara and wicket-keeper James Foster, with the big-hitting Graham Napier also in England’s squad.

England have never won a major one-day tournament and, despite pioneering cricket’s shortest format at county level, are not among the favourites now.

They struggled to get past Scotland in a warm-up match before overwhelming the West Indies, a side they’ve beaten comfortably in Tests and one-dayers this season, in another practice match on Wednesday.

England head into this tournament without star all-rounder Andrew Flintoff (knee injury) but key batsman Kevin Pietersen looks to be recovering from an Achilles problem.

With the Ashes still to come this season, there is a suspicion that England’s sights remain fixed on Tests with regular captain Andrew Strauss stepping down temporarily because of a lack of Twenty20 form.

But all-rounder Paul Collingwood believes low expectations for England, who at the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa two years ago only managed a win over Zimbabwe, could work in the hosts’ favour.
